Event Details

Second Time Media and Communications presents The 2008 Detroit Literary Empowerment Gala, Friday, August 22, 2008 to not only acknowledge, but celebrate those who have been an inspiration to Detroit and its surrounding cities. The founders of the Gala felt that it was important that these arts, where appreciation has been long lost were due to be celebrated.

We are happy to announce that Vincent Alexandria, author and founder of the Brother2Brother Symposium will be the Keynote Speaker. Vincent's fight against illiteracy is definitely in line with the mission of the Detroit Literary Empowerment Gala!

The gala’s mission is to honor individuals and benefit organizations who have shown excellence and dedication in empowering our youth. DLEG will be honoring Artist Village, The Musesum of Contemporary Art & Design (MOCAD), Coloronline, Outfits for Angels and Motown Writers Network.  Recognizing these individuals who have dedicated themselves to improving the image of the city and preparing us for the “Next Detroit” is not only important but necessary. Special celebrity presenters include Acclaimed poet, Jessica Care Moore and songstress L'Renee.

You will be treated to dinner and live entertainment from some of Detroit's most talented spoken word artists, MenTal, Honeycomb, Sunnchyld and Yeuh, as well as a literary awards ceremony. Reserve your spot today. This is an event you don't want to miss.
